The upcoming all-new BMW iX3 is the first of BMW’s Neue Klasse, or “New Class” of vehicles. It’s based on the company’s 6th-generation BMW eDrive technology and has nothing in common with the old BMW iX3, introduced in some markets several years ago. According to specs, it will be one of the most technologically advanced EVs on the market.
Production of the BMW iX3 has already started in Debrecen, Hungary. In the US, the model will arrive in mid-2026 (the first iX3 50 xDrive version will start at around $60,000). Additional iX3 versions will follow in 2027.

Battery and Range
The 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive has an 800-volt class battery system with a nominal voltage of 698.9 volts. Electrically, the battery can be split into two 400-volt modules, enabling the use of 400-volt DC fast chargers as needed.
The battery pack consists of cylindrical 4695-type lithium-ion cells (46 mm in diameter and 95 mm high). The 6th-gen BMW eDrive batteries can also use taller cells with a height of 120 mm.
The usable battery pack capacity is estimated at 108.7 kWh, while the total capacity has not been disclosed in the official materials.
The preliminary driving range, based on the EPA’s test procedure standards, is estimated at up to 400 miles. That’s the longest driving range among BMW EVs so far.
An interesting thread posted by AlejandroEV66 (@AlejandroEV66 / X) and James Ma (@Jamesma1109 / X) shows that the battery pack has 960 cells (5P192S) split into two 430-cell parts (5P81S) if needed. Assuming a cell voltage of 3.65 V and a cell capacity of 32 Ah, the total energy capacity should be about 112 kWh. Each cell is equipped with double-sided liquid cooling. The cell energy density is estimated at over 275 Wh/kg, according to the thread. Battery cells are supplied by EVE Energy, although in the future, BMW will also have other suppliers.

Powertrain
The 2027BMW iX3 50 xDrive features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with a peak system output of 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.7 seconds.
2027 BMW iX3 Charging
The BMW iX3 in North America will be equipped with a NACS (SAE J3400) charging port for AC and DC charging scenarios.
BMW promised that the Neue Klasse EVs will charge 30% faster than the previous generation, adding 10-80% state of charge (SOC) in just over 20 minutes rather than over 30 minutes.
DC Charging: 400 kW
The 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive can accept DC charging power of up to 400 kW (from 800-volt chargers). DC fast charging from 10 to 80% SOC will take 21 minutes. It also means that within 21 minutes, the iX3 can replenish roughly 280 miles of expected EPA range.
That’s a step change compared to what BMW EV models offered so far:

The BMW iX3 definitely is a charging monster, way ahead of the rest of the lineup:
The manufacturer also says that within 10 minutes of charging (the first 10 minutes, let’s note), the iX3 can replenish up to 175 miles of range. Other BMW EV models, based on the previous generation BMW eDrive, can barely reach 90-110 miles:

BMW EVs recently gained access to the Tesla Supercharging network in North America (Supercharging stalls, available to Tesla’s NACS partners).
The 2027 BMW iX3 will be compatible with NACS (SAE J3400) chargers (including Superchargers) without adapters. Access to CCS1 chargers (and SAE J1772 AC charging points) will require an adapter — CCS1-to-NACS and J1772-to-NACS (AC), respectively.
AC Charging
We expect that the onboard charger will be rated at 11 kW (with a 19.2 kW option), which would be enough to fully recharge the vehicle overnight.
Power Export
The 2027 BMW iX3 comes with a set of power export and bidirectional charging features: Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G).
The specs say that V2L (using a special charging port adapter) is possible at up to 3.7 kW (AC outlets). V2H and V2G power export types are DC (up to 11 kW) and will require a BMW Wallbox Professional (DC).
