General Motors has just introduced the all-new 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, which will enter the US market in early 2026. Just like the first generation, the new Bolt brings a reasonable EV package at an affordable price.
The model will be produced at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas, using “domestically and globally sourced parts”. The first units should arrive at the dealerships in Q1 2026.
General Motors said that its two least expensive EV models, the Bolt and Equinox EV, together “are expected to account for most of Chevrolet’s 2026 EV volume.” This means that the duo will beat the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV (no surprise there). However, at the same time, the company warned that the new Bolt “will be a limited run model”, which suggests the volume might not be high.
Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet, said:
“The Chevrolet Bolt was the industry’s first affordable mass-market, long-range EV and it commanded one of GM’s most loyal customer bases thanks to its price, versatility and practicality,”
“After production ended, we heard our customer’s feedback and their love for this product. So the Bolt is coming back—by popular demand and better than ever—for a limited time. This is a celebration of what Bolt means to our customers and to Chevrolet. It’s your chance to own a popular EV that’s affordable. So, if you’ve been waiting, this is the moment. Don’t miss it,”.
Prices
The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will be available in two trim levels — the base LT and the better-equipped, sporty RS. The LT starts at an MSRP of $28,595 ($29,990 after including destination fees), which should make it one of the least expensive EVs on the market. The manufacturer even says that the new Bolt “will offer the most range in an EV under $30,000”.
GM adds that at a later point, there will be an even less expensive LT version, starting at an MSRP of $27,600 ($28,995 with destination fees). Meanwhile, the RS trim starts at $31,600 ($32,995 with destination fees).
Battery and Range
One of the key elements making the new Chevrolet Bolt more affordable is its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery with prismatic can cells. This type of battery is not only less expensive but also considered safe and long-lasting. It has a capacity of 65 kWh (the same number as in the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV).
GM estimates that the driving range will reach 255 miles (the old Bolt EV had up to 259 miles of EPA Combined range). In some instances of the press release, the company mentions 250 miles of range, though. It seems to be a reasonable number for a small EV.
A positive thing is that the model will be equipped with a GM Energy Recovery system (or heat pump) for active cabin and battery heating and cooling. It should prevent range losses in colder weather. Among available options, the company mentioned a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats.
Charging
GM confirmed earlier this year that the new Bolt will have a NACS charging port for AC and DC charging scenarios. It will actually be the first Chevrolet model with the NACS.
One of the most important improvements of the new Chevrolet Bolt is its over 2.5 times faster DC fast-charging capabilities (peak power of roughly 150 kW). According to GM, charging from 10% to 80% state of charge will take 26 minutes, which is not bad for an entry-level EV. Assuming a range of 250 miles, the car can replenish 175 miles of range in 26 minutes.
The onboard charger will have a power of 11.5 kW, which is also in line with many more expensive models on the market.
Another positive surprise for the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is its Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) bi-directional energy transfer capability, known from other GM’s Ultium-based EVs. According to media reports, the V2H power will be up to 9.6 kW.
Powertrain (FWD)
The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will be equipped with GM’s in-house developed X76 electric drive unit (“most advanced X76 variant to date”), which is also found in nine other GM EVs. It utilizes a single permanent-magnet drive motor (210 hp or 156 kW of peak power and about 229 Nm of torque).
