BC Hydro’s public charging network in British Columbia, Canada, has just launched its first 400-kW DC fast chargers, as part of a brand new hub in Burnaby.
400-kW Chargers
The new site at BCIT’s Burnaby campus (3700 Willingdon Avenue, parking lot N) features four chargers, two of which are 400-kW ABB A400 all-in-one chargers and two are 180-kW chargers. All chargers are dual-port (sharing power between two stalls), meaning there is a total of eight stalls. The charging connectors are CCS1, NACS (SAE J3400), and CHAdeMO (on the lower-power units).
According to BC Hydro, more 400-kW chargers are to be deployed in 2026. The first 350-kW chargers debuted on BC Hydro’s network in late 2024, together with the first 180-kW chargers with NACS connectors.
Adrian Dix, British Columbia’s Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, said:
“This new electric vehicle charge hub in Burnaby continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians. With more than 800 BC Hydro charging ports now available in communities throughout B.C., we are building a public charging network that’s ready to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and will support economic growth in our province.”
Charlotte Mitha, President and CEO of BC Hydro, said:
“We’re expanding B.C.’s clean electricity supply and strengthening our provincial grid to power homes, businesses, industry and the future of transportation. These new EV chargers in Burnaby are part of our investment in electric vehicle infrastructure – supporting EV adoption, reducing range anxiety and helping more British Columbians transition to zero-emission driving.”
800+ Ports
As of today, the network consists of over 800 charging ports (811 to be precise) installed at 178 locations, although it’s a mix of AC and DC ports. That’s about 100 more ports than in November 2025. The network has tripled in size within one year, the company says.
For reference, the number of EVs within the province increased to more than 220,000.
