Electrify America, one of North America’s largest DC fast-charging networks, has announced the integration of its real-time charger data into Google Maps. In effect, users can now see up-to-the-minute information about Electrify America’s real-time charger availability across the network on Google Maps.
Once we focus on a particular station, it lists live details on charger availability for each charger type (connector type and power level). For example, it shows that there are 2/4 CCS 350-kW chargers available, 3/3 CCS 150-kW chargers available, and 1/1 CHAdeMO 50-kW chargers available.
Electrify America explains: “The new integration builds on Google’s existing real-time charger availability feature, helping EV drivers make smarter, faster decisions about where to charge and how to plan their routes.”
Let’s note that the Electrify America network consists of more than 5,000 DC fast chargers installed at over 1,000 sites. Roughly 75% of the chargers are 350 kW, according to the recent State Of Charge interview with the company’s representatives.
Robert Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America, said:
“EV adoption is accelerating, and with it comes the expectation of a seamless charging experience. By integrating real-time charging station data, we’re not just improving access, we’re empowering drivers with the confidence to go electric, knowing the information is right at their fingertips.”
We can assume that displaying live charger availability will become a new standard in onboard navigation systems sooner rather than later, as it might be crucial if one of the stations along a route is busy or experiencing technical difficulties.
