EVgo has just announced the expansion of its partnership with Kroger, which first began back in 2022. The two companies plan to deploy thousands of fast chargers near Kroger stores and other amenities, including retail and restaurants.
1,500+ New EVgo Stalls
According to the press release, the joint project will result in the installation of at least 150 fast-charging stalls a year through 2035. Assuming 10 consecutive years (2026-2035) of 150+ new stalls/year, that’s at least 1,500 new stalls. Potentially more.
The plan is to build charging stations with up to 16 high-power stalls per location. However, we guess that most sites will be smaller.
The EVgo chargers will be installed at select Kroger Family of Stores sites across the US, including Kroger, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food Stores, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, and Smith’s Food and Drug branded locations.
The first new charging station of the expanded program is already operational in Salt Lake City, Utah. Additional locations are coming soon to Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Washington, and other states.
Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo, said:
“EVgo’s expanded relationship with Kroger introduces more fast charging options into Americans’ everyday lives. Kroger is the grocery destination of choice for millions of Americans. Adding fast charging to Kroger locations will provide the growing number of EV drivers an essential amenity – the convenience of charging where they shop while empowering drivers with the freedom to choose electric.”
EVgo Plans 15,000+ Stalls by 2029
According to the latest announcement, EVgo intends to deploy thousands of new chargers, expanding its DC fast-charging network from over 4,600 stalls in operation (4,590 as of the end of Q3 2025) to more than 15,000 by the end of 2029.
That’s the highest number we’ve seen so far; the previous forecast was 13,800-14,400 stalls. With this level of investment, EVgo should be able to remain one of the largest DC fast-charging networks in the US (it’s currently #3 by number of ports, right behind Electrify America).
