XCharge Europe and XCharge North America (subsidiaries of the Chinese XCHG Limited) have just scored a potentially very significant order for DC fast-charging equipment for the FAZT Charging network in Mexico.
FAZT Charging, backed by FactorEnergia, a Spanish energy company, plans to build the largest DC fast-charging network in Mexico. The company partners with Soriana Supermarkets, which operates more than 780 locations nationwide, and XCharge.
1,000 Charging Points By 2030
According to the press release, FAZT’s long-term goal is to reach 1,000 operational charging points in Mexico by 2030. The number of stations might be considerably lower.
Deployment has already begun, with the first operational station, SuperFAZT, located in front of Soriana Híper Cumbres and Soriana’s corporate offices in Monterrey, Nuevo León (Calle Alejandro de Rodas 3102-Local B, Cumbres 8º Sector, 64619 Monterrey, N.L.).
The first 30 stations are scheduled to enter service by Q1 2026. More than 80 additional stations are to be added by the end of 2026. At that point, there should be over 110 locations and 440 operational charging points, bringing us to an average of four charging stalls per station.
If we assume a similar average for the entire project, then 1,000 charging points should translate into 250 stations at Soriana Supermarkets.
XCharge’s press release says that the company entered into a strategic collaboration with FAZT Charging to deploy charging infrastructure “at multiple” locations across Mexico. We are not entirely sure whether “multiple” means all, since there may always be other hardware suppliers. However, a strategic partnership and hardware-software integration opens the way to win the order for all 1,000 stalls.
“FAZT selected XCharge as its strategic partner due to the company’s proven expertise in high-power DC fast charging, its integrated hardware-software approach, and its solid global track record. XCharge’s flexibility, responsiveness, and willingness to adapt its solutions to the specific needs of the Mexican market have been key factors in strengthening this collaboration.”
SuperFAZT at 200 kW
XCharge will supply FAZT Charging with its compact C6EU all-in-one chargers, available in several power levels from 60 kW to 200 kW. The chargers may have a different output depending on the location type (150 and 200 kW at highway corridors or high-traffic stations, and 60 kW or 120 kW at shopping centers).
The C6EU supports high-voltage battery systems (up to 1,000 volts) and can be ordered with any charging connector standard, including the NACS (SAE J3400), GB/T (common among Chinese brands like BYD and JAC entering Latin America), and CCS1 (the most popular one in Mexico).
The featured photo above indicates that at least some of the first chargers are equipped with the Chinese “GB/T” connectors. It will be interesting to see how the battle of standards sorts out in Mexico.
Electrification of Mexico
The National Electric Mobility Strategy says that by 2030, 50% of new vehicles sold in Mexico will be all-electric or plug-in hybrid. Regardless of how accurate this forecast is, having a decent number of EV charging stations available would be handy.
Javier Cuartas Villalobos, CEO of FAZT, said:
“FAZT chose to partner with XCharge and Soriana for this rollout because we were looking for strategic allies capable of supporting a fast, scalable, and highly reliable expansion in Mexico. We see XCharge as a long-term technology partner who will help us on the modernization of the country’s energy model to advance towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.”
Gerardo Díaz Canales, Soriana’s Director of Real Estate Development, eMPHasized the company’s commitment to the future of mobility in Mexico:
“We are proud to be the first Mexican retailer to offer our customers fast-charging electric stations. This step not only expands our range of products and services but also reaffirms our commitment to the environment and to the development of an electric mobility ecosystem in Mexico.”
Javier Lázaro, Head of Sales at XCharge EU, said:
“The collaboration with FAZT and Soriana demonstrates how XCharge technology can be effectively integrated into high-impact projects to accelerate the energy transition. We are proud to contribute to the growth of charging infrastructure in Mexico with solutions that adapt to market and user needs.”
