General Motors has taken another important step to streamline the EV charging experience by integrating the Electrify America network into the myChevrolet, myGMC, and myCadillac apps.
As a result, users of Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac electric vehicles can now find, charge, and pay for DC fast charging at more than 5,000 Electrify America (and Electrify Canada) DC fast charging stalls at over 1,000 locations, from the myChevrolet, myGMC, or myCadillac apps, which are usually already on their phone.
According to the manufacturer, the integration enables users to plan routes, start charging sessions, monitor charging status, and make payments, all while remaining within GM’s domain (myBrand app):
- Find charging stations nearby with real-time availability
- Plan routes and identify charging stops along the way
- Monitor charging session status
- Pay for charging sessions directly in the app
The primary benefit of such integrations is a unified charging experience and the elimination of the hassle of juggling multiple apps, GM explains.
GM EV drivers already have access to a wide range of charging networks and can access more than 250,000 public charging stalls across the US and Canada.
Let’s recall that most of Electrify America’s chargers are rated at up to 350 kW and support 800-volt battery systems, enabling maximum or near-maximum charging performance for some of GM’s EVs (especially the larger ones). In the US, there are some 10,000 charging stalls with 350+ kW power (roughly 4,500 are Electrify America).
Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, said:
“We’re collaborating across the industry to deliver not just more chargers, but better public charging experiences. Our work with Electrify America helps make public charging easier to access for GM EV drivers.”
Robert Barrosa, CEO and president of Electrify America, said:
“As EV travel continues to grow, so does the need for convenient charging experiences. Through this integration, GM EV drivers have more Hyper-Fast chargers to choose from and a seamless experience they can count on nationwide, helping them get to the places that matter.”
