Kia EV6 GT Comes With 1,000 kWh Of Complimentary Charging

The first-time owners will have three years from the data of purchase to use the energy package with Electrify America.

The all-new, performance-oriented Kia EV6 GT will come with 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of complimentary charging, available for use by first-time owners at Electrify America stations during a period of three years from the date of purchase.

The new charging agreement between Electrify America and Kia America matches the 1,000 kWh promotion introduced in February 2022 for the non-performance Kia EV6 model.

The manufacturer expects that, depending on factors such as driving style and external conditions, 1,000 kWh should be enough to drive about 3,500 to 4,000 miles at zero energy cost. However, it might be worth noting that the EPA-rated range of the version with the Kia EV6 GT’s 77.4 kWh battery is 206 miles, so it might be less in some cases (roughly 2,500 miles, assuming EPA range and battery capacity).

The complimentary charging is redeemable at any Electrify America charging station nationwide through the Electrify America app.

One of the main advantages of the Hyundai-Kia’s dedicated all-electric E-GMP platform is the 800 V battery system, capable of ultra-fast charging from 10% to 80% of state-of-charge in approximately 18 minutes. The Electrify America’s 800 V and 350 kW chargers fully support this rate, although the real-world charging speed might be affected by various factors, like the battery temperature.

Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer of Electrify America, said:

Working closely with automakers to provide seamless fast charging solutions is critical to expanded EV adoption, and we’re excited to collaborate with Kia to help make the transition to an electric lifestyle even easier for new EV owners. Public charging offers drivers a convenient way to charge quickly away from home and is a critically important opportunity to instill range confidence in EV drivers.”

Steve Center, COO and EVP of Kia America, added:

“The Kia EV6 GT is made for performance, and our ongoing collaboration with Electrify America will help ensure these vehicles can do just that. As Kia continues its shift to electrification, the EV6 GT takes that next step by providing a superior electric driving experience.”

Over the past few years, Electrify America announced similar charging agreements with multiple EV manufacturers, although they vary depending on brand and model. In some cases, there is a limit of 250 kWh, 500 kWh, or 1,000 kWh available over a certain period. In other cases, an unlimited number of 30-minute charging sessions are available over two or three years of ownership.
