Tesla’s Newly Redesigned CCS1-to-NACS Adapter Fits Tesla Cybertruck

Previously, only the Model 3, Model S, Model X and Model Y were able to connect to CCS1 chargers.


Tesla has released a newly redesigned CCS1-to-NACS DC fast-charging adapter that now fits the Tesla Cybertruck’s charging port.

The Origin of the Issue

The original Tesla CCS1-to-NACS adapter enabled charging Tesla EVs (Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y) at third-party CCS1 chargers. Such an option was not available for the Tesla Cybertruck. The issue was that the adapter did not fit the charging inlet due to a large fender near the charging inlet location.

It was very surprising that Tesla’s own CCS1-to-NACS adapter did not work with the Tesla Cybertruck when it was launched just over two years ago.

Third-party Solution

Some third-party suppliers, like A2Z EV, even jumped in and developed a special longer version of the CCS1-to-NACS adapter specifically designed for the Tesla Cybertruck.

The A2Z Thunderstorm Max is the primary example, as it enables the Tesla Cybertruck to use CCS1 chargers. State Of Charge had an opportunity to demonstrate the CCS1-to-NACS charging with the A2Z Thunderstorm Max, without removing the fender, back in November 2024.

The A2Z Thunderstorm Max costs $139 (compared to the standard A2Z Thunderstorm CCS1-to-NACS at $131), and you can get a small discount by applying the STATEOFCHARGE coupon code. Both of A2Z EV’s adapters received the UL 2252 safety certification.

Tesla’s New CCS1-to-NACS Adapter

Tesla announced the new CCS1-to-NACS adapter in January 2026, showcasing it on a Tesla Cybertruck-focused channel (@cybertruck / X) alongside the Cybertruck.

The new CCS1-to-NACS adapter has a narrow enclosure on the NACS side to fit the Cybertruck, as well as a new SAE J3400 plug. The manufacturer says that the product “offers charging speeds up to 250 kW” (as we understand it, that’s typical Tesla-speak for all its cars, but the Cybertruck can accept a higher power).

The adapter costs $200 (in Canada, the price is $275 CAD), so it’s noticeably more expensive than some third-party solutions. Nonetheless, a year ago, when the market was hungry for adapters, Tesla’s CCS1-to-NACS price was even higher at $300 (up from $250).

Tesla’s shop currently does not include other CCS1-to-NACS adapters. As we understand it, the new version is universal and compatible with all Tesla EVs* with a NACS (SAE J3400) charging port.

*Some older Model S/X and Model 3/Y might still require a retrofit on a vehicle level to work with CCS1 chargers.
