Toyota bz and bZ4X Models Gain Access to Tesla Supercharging Network

Complimentary NACS-to-CCS1 adapters for 2023-2025 model year EVs will be available soon.

This week, Toyota EVs gained access to the Tesla Supercharging network in North America (with over 25,000 Superchargers available to Tesla’s NACS partners). The announcement regarding Toyota Supercharging from October 22, 2025, concerns the all-new, NACS-compatible 2026 Toyota bZ, which begins arriving at dealers nationwide this month, and the older CCS1-compatible 2023-2025 Toyota bZ4X.

Available Tesla Superchargers (and other compatible charging points) can be found in the Toyota app. Having Superchargers on the list is a significant boost for Toyota EVs, as it virtually doubles the number of accessible DC fast chargers for the brand.

Adapters

2026 Toyota bZ Access

The 2026 Toyota bZ is natively equipped with a NACS (SAE J3400) charging port for AC and DC charging scenarios. It does not require an adapter to use Tesla Superchargers or other NACS charging points (AC or DC).

Moreover, the 2026 Toyota bZ comes standard with adapters that allow backward compatibility with CCS1 DC fast chargers (CCS1-to-NACS adapter) and SAE J1772 AC charging points (J1772-to-NACS adapter).

“All 2026 Toyota BEVs will come standard with adapters that allow backward compatibility to charge at SAE J1772 and Combined Charging System (CCS) stations, providing even greater charging convenience and flexibility. “

2023-2025 Toyota bZ4X Access

The older generation 2023-2025 Toyota bZ4X has a CCS1 charging port, directly compatible with CCS1 DC fast chargers and SAE J1772 AC charging points.

The Japanese manufacturer plans to provide complimentary NACS-to-CCS1 charging adapters to its existing customers, so they will also be able to use Tesla Superchargers (and other NACS DC fast chargers). Only the Toyota-supplied adapters are permitted for use:

“Starting in November, model year 2023-25 Toyota bZ4X owners will receive a letter from Toyota directing them to contact their dealer to receive one complimentary NACS charging adapter.[3]

Like all Toyota Genuine Accessories, these adapters meet Toyota’s standards for durability and quality and are the only adapter units that come with the assurance of Toyota warranty coverage.”

“[3] Charging a Toyota or Lexus vehicle with an unauthorized accessory may void the vehicle’s warranty and may negatively impact vehicle performance and safety.”

There has been no word about a NACS-to-J1772 AC adapter, but it’s not currently important, as the vast majority of AC charging points are SAE J1772 anyway.

Plug & Charge

The 2026 Toyota bZ features Plug & Charge, which “can initiate charging by simply plugging in after a one-time enrollment setup through the Toyota app”.

Initially, Plug & Charge will be available only on the Tesla Supercharging network. The company says that other Plug & Charge-enabled networks, like Ionna, ChargePoint, and EVgo, will follow.

As we understand, 2023-2025 Toyota bZ4X users can initiate a charging session and pay for charging only through the Tesla app (there is no Plug & Charge).

Apple Maps EV Routing

The third new charging-related feature is Apple Maps EV Routing, available for all Toyota EVs with Toyota Audio Multimedia and Apple CarPlay.

“Available for all 2023 and newer Toyota BEVs, Apple Maps can now access real-time vehicle information to efficiently navigate iPhone users to compatible chargers on the way to their destinations, taking into account factors like battery performance and elevation changes.”

Range

The 2026 Toyota bZ has a slightly higher battery capacity of 74.7 kWh compared to its predecessor (71.4 kWh or 72.8 kWh). There is also an entry-level 57.7-kWh version.

The EPA Combined range of the entry-level version (XLE trim, front-wheel drive, and 18-inch wheels) is 236 miles. The XLE Plus trim with the larger battery is expected to get 314 miles of range according to the manufacturer, but this version has not been listed by the EPA yet.

An interesting note is that the Limited trim (FWD with 20-inch wheels) has an EPA Combined range of 296 miles, compared to the 299 miles initially expected by the manufacturer. We rarely see a different final number.

The all-wheel drive versions have slightly lower EPA Combined range: 288 miles (XLE trim) and 278 miles (Limited trim).

Charging

The new Toyota bZ is the first Toyota EV to feature the NACS (SAE J3400) charging inlet for AC and DC charging.

The car can DC fast charge from 10 to 80% state of charge in 30 minutes at up to 150 kW. The onboard charger is rated at 11 kW (compared to 7.6 kW in the bZ4X).

The primary weak point of the new all-electric Toyota appears to be the location of the charging port in the front-right (passenger side). This might be convenient when Supercharging at V3 Tesla Superchargers (the ones with short charging cables), but not necessarily at home on a daily basis (especially in tight garages).

Prices

Toyota recently released full pricing of the 2026 Toyota bZ, which starts at an MSRP of $34,900 (the entry-level version) plus a $1,450 destination charge. The longer-range version costs $3,000 more.

Overall, the prices are only slightly higher than those of the 2025 model year, while the car is significantly improved in terms of driving range, performance, and equipment.

Related Models

Since Toyota bz and bZ4X models have gained access to Tesla Supercharging, we are now waiting for official information on the Lexus RZ’s Supercharging access (Lexus is part of the wider Toyota group).

The Subaru Solterra’s Tesla Supercharging access will be covered in a separate post soon (see here).
