Voltpost has announced its first-ever public deployment of a lamppost EV charging point. The AC Level 2 charging station has been installed in Oak Park, Illinois, in partnership with the Park District of Oak Park and ComEd, the region’s utility company.
The main feature of the Voltpost charging station is that it’s integrated with an existing light pole. The company believes that retrofitting existing light poles with chargers is a cost-effective solution for cities.
Access to the charging point and pricing info is available through the Voltpost mobile app.
Voltpost already has some pilot projects in New York and Michigan, and earlier this year, it was announced that 50 charging stations with a total of 100 charging ports are coming to Connecticut.
The next task will be to scale up the platform, which should provide us with the answer as to whether it’s a viable solution for city centers.
Voltpost CEO and Co-Founder, Jeffrey Prosserman, said:
“The deployment of a Voltpost charger in Oak Park will expand EV charging access for the local community and help catalyze the transition to sustainable transportation. This deployment builds upon our ongoing projects in New York and Michigan, and marks a step forward in our mission to scale the Voltpost platform nationwide. We are grateful to our partners at the Park District of Oak Park and ComEd for collaborating with us to make equitable EV charging infrastructure available for the residents of Oak Park.”
Kassie Porreca, President of the Park District Board of Commissioners, said:
“Ensuring the residents of Oak Park benefit from affordable access to EV charging infrastructure is vital to fulfilling our commitment to serving the needs of our community. We are happy to collaborate with Voltpost and ComEd to provide convenient curbside charging infrastructure that will improve village life.”
